SelfManager MCP server: connect any AI assistant

Ask your AI assistant to plan your day, add and complete tasks, or look back on a week. It works with your real tables, and you decide what it may do.

SelfManager connects through MCP (Model Context Protocol), the open standard AI assistants use to work with other apps, so any app that supports it can connect. You only need this address:

https://api.selfmanager.ai/mcp
  • Works with Claude, Claude Code, ChatGPT, Cursor, VS Code, LM Studio and any app that supports MCP
Private beta. Right now only accounts we've invited can connect. Each connection needs an active SelfManager plan; the 7-day free trial counts. To join, write to marian@selfmanager.ai from the address you sign in with. After the beta, anyone with a plan can connect.

Connect it

The address is always the same:

https://api.selfmanager.ai/mcp

Claude

  1. In Claude on the web or the desktop app, open Settings → Connectors and select Add custom connector.
  2. Name it SelfManager and paste the address above.
  3. Select Connect. Claude opens SelfManager: sign in, choose what Claude may do, and select Allow.

ChatGPT

  1. In ChatGPT, open Settings and turn on developer mode.
  2. Add a connector named SelfManager with the address above.
  3. Connect it. ChatGPT opens SelfManager: sign in, choose what ChatGPT may do, and select Allow.

Claude Code

Run this in your terminal, then type /mcp in Claude Code to sign in. It makes SelfManager available in all your projects:

claude mcp add --transport http --scope user selfmanager https://api.selfmanager.ai/mcp

Cursor, VS Code, LM Studio and other MCP apps

Add the address as a remote (HTTP) MCP server, then sign in to SelfManager and allow it. If one doesn't connect, tell us. SelfManager can't verify these apps, so the approval page names where the access goes: continue only if you just started the connection yourself.

Your own tools and scripts

Personal API key

Make a personal API key in SelfManager, under My Profile → Connected apps, and send it to the address above as Authorization: Bearer <your key>. A key is shown once, lasts 30, 90 or 365 days, and can do only what you chose for it. Connected apps appears there once your account is in the beta.

For your own code, without an assistant, the same key works with the API and webhooks.

What you can ask

Ask in your own words. For example:

  • "What's on my list today?"
  • "Create a table for tomorrow called Launch prep with: write changelog, record demo, email customers."
  • "Mark record demo as done."
  • "Plan my next 3 months of workouts on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday."
  • "How many tasks did I finish each week this quarter?"
  • "Move my Gym routine to Mondays and Thursdays, and add "stretch" to it."
  • "What did my last AI Review say?"
  • "Review my week and save it to my AI History."

Apps that show MCP prompts also offer SelfManager's ready-made ones (in Claude, in the + menu):

  • What's on today
  • Plan my week
  • Weekly review
  • Turn this into a routine
  • What can I ask?

How SelfManager is organised

Your work lives on days, and that changes how you ask.

Every day has its own tables.

A table is a list for one day, with its own tasks and progress. Nothing moves to the next day by itself: to carry unfinished tasks forward, ask your assistant to add them to tomorrow.

Routines are repeating tables.

A repeating table has a schedule (every day, weekdays, every Monday, monthly…) and each day it repeats on gets its own copy, so ticking today's routine leaves tomorrow's fresh. Your assistant can make, change and delete routines as the Repeats page does.

Tasks have progress, not just done or not done.

Besides completed, a task can be checked a little, done something or almost completed (25%, 50% and 75% toward the table's progress), looked over, or canceled. Priority runs from critical to optional.

Notes, comments and your journal are different places.

Notes are one document per table. Comments are the conversation with the people you share a table with. Your journal is one private line per day, your daily Self message.

Deadlines belong to tasks.

Your assistant reads them, and can set or remove one, asking you first. On a table other people can see, that needs the box for those tables, since a deadline there can remind everyone on it.

AI History keeps your saved reviews.

It holds the AI Reviews and chats you saved. Your assistant can read them and save its own reviews there, marked with its name.

What it can and can't do

It can

  • Read your tables, tasks, notes, comments, deadlines, pinned and repeating tables, including tables shared with you; every comment and every table's notes in one list, as All › Comments and All › Notes show them; the days you have tables on, as All › Dates lists them; which of your tables other people can see and who is on them (by name); your AI History, your AI credits and what used them.
  • Make changes, if you allow it: create and copy tables, add tasks, comments and notes where only you can see them, edit tasks, mark them done and record how long they took, set and remove deadlines in tables only you can see, pin and unpin tables, rename a table or change its settings (time tracking too), make and change repeating tables as the Repeats page does, and save a review or chat to your AI History.
  • Your journal (your daily Self message), when the assistant asks for it: read it, and add to it or rewrite a day's line if it may make changes. The line it replaces is kept: bring it back from that day's Self message, under Previous versions.
  • Tables other people can see, only if you tick that box: add tasks, comments and notes there, @mention people on the table in a comment (each is told, as when you mention them), and set or remove deadlines, for you or for everyone on the table. This is flagged for your assistant to ask you first, because everyone on that table will read it, and a deadline for everyone reminds each of them.
  • See images and read voice recordings' transcripts, only if you tick that box: on any table you can see, including the ones other people added to a table you share, with who added each.
  • Read your docs, only if you tick that box: the files on any table you can see, including the ones other people added to a table you share, with who added each. It gets their text, as SelfManager read it when the file was added, never the file itself.
  • Delete one thing at a time, only if you tick that box: a task, a comment (with its images and voice recordings), an image, a recording, a doc, a table's notes, or a whole table after showing you what is in it, in a table only you can see; in a table other people can see, only your own comment, if you also ticked the box for those tables. With the same box it can move a table of yours that nobody else sees to another day, and reset a table's task times. It can also delete a repeating table (the tables it already made stay) and clear a day's journal line (kept, so you can bring it back). A doc, or a table with docs, also needs the docs box. Each is flagged for your assistant to ask you first. Deleting can't be undone.

It can never

  • Delete many things at once; delete anything in a table other people can see, but your own comment; or rewrite your notes or other people's comments. Changing a repeating table can replace the tasks and notes its new copies start with, and the tasks of copies made for coming days that nobody worked in. That change is flagged for your assistant to ask you first.
  • Share a table, invite someone, or change who can see what.
  • Turn a table's log off, change the settings of a table other people can see, hear your recordings (it can read their transcripts), or open your docs' files (it can read their text).
  • Run SelfManager's own AI, such as AI Plan or AI Review.
  • See any account but yours, or anything you can't see in the app.

The permissions you choose

When you connect, SelfManager shows what the assistant asks for, and you choose:

  • ReadAlways on.
  • Also see your images and voice recordings, and read their transcriptsOff unless you tick it.
  • Also read your docs (the text of files on tables you can see)Off unless you tick it.
  • Make changesTicked unless you untick it.
  • Also add tasks, comments and notes, @mention people, and set deadlines that remind everyone, in tables other people can seeOff unless you tick it.
  • Also delete, move tables and reset task times: one thing at a time, in tables only you can see (a repeating table, or a day's journal line, too)Off unless you tick it.
  • Your journal (your daily Self message)Included when the assistant asks for it.

To change them, remove SelfManager in your app and connect it again. If the old connection is still listed in My Profile → Connected apps, disconnect it there.

How you can tell what it did

  • Each change it makes to an existing table adds a line to that table's log, if the table keeps one (new tables do), ending in the app's name. Everyone on that table sees it. Deleting a doc adds none, as in SelfManager. For example:

Row "record demo" status changed from not started to completed (via Claude)

  • A comment it writes shows "via" and the app's name next to your name, so the people you share with know.
  • With a personal API key, both say "via an AI assistant".
  • The Assistant activity page lists what your apps and keys changed in the last 30 days, also after you disconnect them. My Profile → Connected apps lists what is connected, and when each was last used.
  • SelfManager sends you a notice whenever a new app connects or a key is made.

Disconnect it

In SelfManager, open My Profile → Connected apps and choose Disconnect (or Revoke for a key). It stops working within about a minute. Removing SelfManager in your app stops that app using it; disconnecting in SelfManager ends it on our side too. What it changed stays on the Assistant activity page for 30 days.

AI credits

AI credits are what SelfManager's AI runs on. The same credits pay for SelfManager's own AI, such as AI Plan, AI Review and its chats, and for the requests your assistant and other apps make here, at one price for every assistant and app.

Included in your plan, every week.

The Individual plan ($8 a month) includes 35 AI credits a week, and the Team plan ($30 a month, for the whole team) 70. They renew every Monday at 00:00 UTC and are used before credits you buy.

More when you need them.

Buy extra credits on the Subscription page at $0.05 a credit, from 50 credits ($2.50). Credits you buy never expire.

What a request costs

0 credits

Reading one thing, and changing what is already there.

  • Reading a day, a table or a list (every comment and every table's notes too), your journal, a repeating table, your AI History, what is shared, or your AI credits and what used them.
  • Tasks: ticking, editing or reopening them, recording how long one took, and setting or removing deadlines.
  • Tables: pinning them, changing a table's settings, and editing a repeating table.
  • Images and recordings: listing them, and reading a recording's transcript.
  • Docs: listing them, and reading a doc's text.
  • Deleting (a repeating table, or a day's journal line, too), and resetting a table's task times.

From 1 AI credit a request

Reading many things, searching, and adding anything new.

  • Reading several days or totals, or the days you have tables on. A long range is read a page at a time, each page one request.
  • Searching your tables.
  • Seeing an image.
  • Adding a table or a repeating table, tasks, a comment, notes or a journal line, rewriting a day's journal line, or saving a conversation to your AI History.
  • Copying or moving a table, charged once it is done, never for one that stops.

Adding a lot at once

  • 25 tasks for 1 AI credit

Wherever they are added, so 26 tasks are 2 credits. A new table's first 25 tasks come with it.

  • 10 tables for 1 AI credit

When it makes many tables at once: 30 daily tables of up to 25 tasks each are 3 credits.

  • 1,000 tables in one request

At most, each with up to 200 tasks. Tasks added to a table: up to 200 a request.

  • With no credits left, a request that costs one does nothing, and your assistant says so. Free requests keep working.
  • Each charged request shows on your AI Usage page with the app's name.

More on plans and credits on the Pricing page.

Privacy

While it stays connected, the assistant gets only the SelfManager data it asks for on your behalf: images, recordings' transcripts and your docs' text only if you allowed it. On a shared table, that includes what other members wrote, added or recorded, and their names. Its provider, such as Anthropic for Claude, handles that data under its own terms. We never see your conversation with the assistant.

For 30 days we keep a list of what each app changed, for your Assistant activity page: which table (by its name) or day, and when, never the text it wrote or what it deleted. It stays for its 30 days even after you disconnect the app. So that a request sent twice is applied once, we keep each change's answer for a day.

What an assistant deletes is deleted as it is in SelfManager. Its images, recordings and docs are removed from our storage within minutes, with every stored copy, and a whole table's files go as when you delete the table in SelfManager; as for any file you delete, our storage provider can recover them for up to 7 days.

If something doesn't work

"Couldn't register with SelfManager.ai's sign-in service"
Our sign-in servers rest when nobody has used them for a while, and the first try wakes them. Wait about ten seconds and select Connect again.
"…in a private beta that doesn't include this account yet"
Your account isn't in the beta yet. It opens to everyone with a plan after the beta.
"Your SelfManager plan isn't active…"
Start or renew a plan in SelfManager. The 7-day free trial counts.
"For your safety, sign in again to connect an app."
Approving needs a sign-in within the last 10 minutes. Sign out, sign back in, and connect again.
"Verify your email address first."
Accounts made with an email and a password confirm their address once, from the email we sent.
"SelfManager couldn't verify this app"
Expected for apps other than Claude, Claude Code and ChatGPT. Continue only if you started the connection yourself.
It doesn't connect at all
Check the address: it starts with api., https://api.selfmanager.ai/mcp.
Your app asks you to connect again
A connection ends after 60 days without use, when you change your password or email address, or when you disconnect it in My Profile → Connected apps. A password or email change ends your personal API keys too. Connect again, or make a new key.
"Too many requests in a minute."
The limit is 60 requests a minute: of them, 10 searches, 10 that make, change, copy, move or delete whole tables, 20 single deletes, 10 pictures and 30 doc reads. Wait a moment and try again.
"That's the most … your connected apps can make in a day"
In a day, an account's assistants can make 5,000 calls in all. With its API keys, its connected apps can delete up to 100 things and 10 whole tables, copy or move 50 tables, set 50 deadlines for everyone, and mention 20 people. More the next day (UTC), or in SelfManager at any time.
"That confirmation doesn't match this table as it is now"
Something in the table changed after the assistant showed you what it holds, or the preview was for another table. Ask it to preview the table again.
It won't delete or move a table
Deleting, and moving a table to another day, need their own permission: remove SelfManager in your app, connect again, and tick "Also delete". It deletes one thing at a time (a whole table counts as one, after it shows you what is in it), and only in tables only you can see, except your own comments where you also ticked the box for tables other people can see. A table with docs also needs "Also read your docs" ticked.
It won't show an image or a recording's words
Seeing them needs its own permission: remove SelfManager in your app, connect again, and tick "Also see your images and voice recordings".
It won't read a doc
Reading docs needs its own permission: remove SelfManager in your app, connect again, and tick "Also read your docs". A scan, an old Office file (.doc, .xls, .ppt) or an .rtf has no text it can read, and docs are read when they are added: one added before SelfManager read docs has none until you add it again.
It won't set a deadline on a shared table
On a table other people can see, deadlines need the box for those tables: connect again and tick it. A deadline someone else set is changed only once you agree.
It won't mention someone
Mentioning people needs the box for tables other people can see. It can mention the table's owner and the people who joined it, by name: someone whose profile has no name, or whose name is an email address, can only be mentioned in SelfManager.
It rewrote my journal by mistake
Open that day in SelfManager, select the clock beside your Self message (or "Previous versions" under an empty one), and choose Restore. The line it replaces is kept too.
It won't share a table
That is by design. Sharing, inviting and roles stay in SelfManager.

The tools

What the assistant can call. Reading tools only read. Those marked asks first are flagged for your assistant to check with you before it runs them: Claude does, unless you've set it to always allow them; other apps decide for themselves.

Making changes 24

  • create_table Creates a table of yours on a day, with tasks and notes.
  • create_tables Creates up to 1,000 tables of yours at once, on any days (several on one day too), with tasks and notes.
  • add_tasks Adds up to 200 tasks at a time to a table only you can see.
  • open_day Makes a day's repeating tables, as opening that day in SelfManager does, so their tasks can be ticked.
  • complete_task Marks a task done, as ticking it does: its time and the table's log.
  • reopen_task Marks a done task as not started. This deletes the time recorded for it. asks first
  • update_task Changes a task's priority or progress, or renames it in a table only you can see. asks first
  • add_comment Adds a comment, in your name, to a table only you can see.
  • update_comment Changes the words of one of your own comments, as SelfManager's edit does; never someone else's. In a table other people can see, only with that permission. asks first
  • append_table_notes Adds text at the end of the notes of a table only you can see.
  • append_journal Adds text to a day's journal line (your daily Self message).
  • update_journal Rewrites a day's journal line. The old line is kept: bring it back from that day's Self message. asks first
  • write_shared_table Adds tasks, a comment or notes text in a table other people can see (only if you allow it). A comment can @mention people on the table, and each is told. asks first
  • create_repeating_table Makes a repeating table as SelfManager does, from today or later, with its tasks and notes. Each day it repeats on gets its table when the day is opened. asks first
  • update_repeating_table Changes a repeating table as the Repeats page does: what new copies start with, the schedule, the end date, or pause and resume. Tables already made change only if you ask, and only those nobody worked in. asks first
  • save_to_ai_history Saves a review or chat you had with it to your AI History when you ask, marked with its name. It never edits or deletes one.
  • update_table_settings Renames a table, changes its description or time tracking, turns its log on, or makes it your homepage table. A table's own settings only where nobody else can see it; sharing stays in SelfManager.
  • duplicate_table Copies one of your tables in one go, as the app's Duplicate does: to the day and under the name you ask for (its own when you don't), with its tasks (their statuses as they are, or all reset to not started), and if you ask its comments, images, audio, notes, log and videos (with a paid plan), and with the docs permission its docs; docs and videos as far as your storage allows. The copy is yours alone.
  • get_job Says whether a copy or a move is done.
  • pin_table Pins a table you can see, last in your list.
  • unpin_table Unpins a table; the table stays.
  • log_task_time Records how long a task took: completes it with that time, or changes a done task's time where its completion time was kept. asks first
  • set_deadline Sets a task's deadline and reminder, for you, or for everyone on a table others see. asks first
  • clear_deadline Removes a task's deadline. asks first

Deleting 14

With the delete permission only: one thing at a time, a whole table after its preview, in tables only you can see. Moving a table needs it too, since the table leaves its day. A doc, or a table with docs, also needs the docs permission.

  • delete_task Deletes one task, with its deadline. asks first
  • delete_comment Deletes one comment, with its images and voice recordings. asks first
  • clear_table_notes Empties a table's notes. The old notes stay one undo away in SelfManager (the Previous arrow). asks first

  • delete_recording Deletes one voice recording, from a comment, the notes or the Audio section. asks first
  • delete_doc Deletes one doc, with its file and its text. Needs the docs permission too. asks first
  • delete_log_entries Deletes one or more entries of a table's log. The log keeps a line saying what went; no entry can be edited. asks first
  • clear_table_log Deletes every entry of a table's log, as "Delete all" does. The log keeps a line saying how many went. asks first
  • preview_table_delete Shows what is in a table before it is deleted, and gives the confirmation delete_table needs. It changes nothing.
  • delete_table Deletes a whole table you own that nobody else can see, with everything in it, after its preview. A repeating table's copy is skipped on its day. A table with docs needs the docs permission too. asks first
  • reset_task_times Sets every task's times in a table to now, as "Reset time on all rows" does. asks first
  • delete_repeating_table Deletes a repeating table, as the Repeats page does: no new copies are made, and the tables it already made stay. asks first
  • delete_journal Clears a day's journal line. Needs the journal too. The line is kept: bring it back from that day's Self message. asks first
  • move_table Moves one of your tables that nobody else sees to another day, with everything in it. If the table is edited meanwhile, nothing moves. A table with docs needs the docs permission too. asks first
